"Connecting with people, and people connecting with themselves and each other is what my work is all about – it is my vision.
I aim to encourage people to explore their sub-conscious through questions every human being can relate to. Inspired by nature, the environment, people and place I wish to encourage people to see the symbolism behind my work. I have a fascination for the human figure and body language . My sculptures pull on the individuality of human form – and the ideologies every human being develops; including hope, aspiration, flight, spirit, enlightenment, stimulation and development. The position of each sculpture depicts many of these themes; not only the positioning of the sculptures – but the medium.
I am a worker in mass produced objects. My current theme of connection between people has brought me to use household keys which is unique. The keys epitomize the symbolism of connection with others, unlocking doors and bringing new beginnings or hiding old happenings- all things that matter and link us as humans in our existence. We can all identify with the medium symbolically and realistically – and this is where I find my inspiration. Everyone can relate to my works – everyone has a key for something or somewhere.
My craft is to mould and cast to achieve the desired form for my sculptures. Initially, I weld with metal and am currently broadening into using mixed media. The materials I use are powder coat, gold leaf and wood - another beautiful nature given material enhancing the quality of my inspiring pieces. The welding process fully reinforces the theme of connectivity as I connect materials, which connect us to ourselves and others.
My work communicates positivity and encourages people to think, even on the most basic terms, about synchronicity – how we are all existing and functioning alongside each other. My work should encourage giving thought to why we are so synchroniSed, and the source of synchronicity – the element of spiritual expression." - Justin Butcher (2015)
